Joseph Tuttle Jennings was born at Rockport, Lehigh County, PA, to Paul Bishop Jennings and Elizabeth Tuttle. He was the brother of William Navarre Jennings, Worthy Jennings, Caroline Elizabeth Jennings Sturdevant, Mariah Jennings, Mary Ann Jennings Kintner, and Charles Jennings
Joseph worked with his father in various family businesses, including: Jennings Lumber and the Jennings Grist Mill at Mehoopany, PA. Later, he and his brother, William Navarre Jennings, established the town of Jenningsville, PA, located north of Mehoopany, in Wyoming County, PA. There, the two brothers began extensive lumber operations, each going his own way in business. Joseph Jennings was, like his brother, William, and their father, successful in his business endeavors. Joseph married Sally Ann Fassett. They were the parents of Joseph Tuttle Jennings, Jr., Fred Jennings, Mary F. Jennings, Harridon Sterling Jennings, and John Bishop Jennings. Joseph died in North Mehoopany, and is buried in the Vaughan Cemetery at Mehoopany, PA.
