They had 13 children, Laura, Edgar Poe, Albert, Kate, Annie M., William Lawrence, John Frazer, Harry Donald, Jesse Bassett, Frank, Alice, Margaret and Howard. Jesse was the sixth child, grew to 5'8" with a dark complexion and brown eyes. He fought in the Civil War with the 208th Regiment of the Army of the Potomac. During the winter the regiment was frequently under fire at the front.
