SUESSA BALDRIDGE BLAINE
Friends of Mrs. Suessa B. Blaine learned with profound regret that she had passed away at 10:45 on Sunday morning, May 15.

Mrs. Blaine was the daughter of Harvey Baldridge and Eliza Wilkinson Baldridge. She was born in the town of Varick on February 25, 1866; and after spending her girlhood in this vicinity, she attended Wheaton College where she completed her education.

On March 13, 1891[sic], she was joined in marriage to Don P. Blaine. The couple lived in Romulus and Washington and more recently, on the farm north of the village.

Mrs. Blaine was an ardent worker in the cause of temperance and was a life member of the National Women’s Temperance Union. She was much in demand as a lecturer and she rose to national prominence when she was appointed by President Wilson to Represent the United States at the International Congress on Alcoholism held in Milan, Italy, in 1913. While she was in Rome she enjoyed the distinction of being received by Pope Pius the Tenth.

Three years later she was called upon to conduct an impressive pageant on the steps of the Capitol at Washington, where the presidential inaugural ceremonies are held.

Mrs. Blaine possessed much talent as a public speaker and she toured the country for two years in behalf of the Women’s Temperance Union; presenting many pageants in the larger cities.

About two years ago her health began to fail and she was compelled to relinquish her work; and she retired to her home.

She is survived by her husband, Don; one son, Willis; two brothers, Harry, of Geneva and John, of Minneapolis, Minn. She was a life-long member of the Congregational Church.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. S. C. Page, were largely attended and were held from the home of Mr. Blaine’s sister, Mrs. W. H. Kinne. The rooms were banked with beautiful floral gifts from neighbors and friends. Interment was in Mount Green Cemetery in Romulus...
