Biography

Alice Catharine Collings Merry was born in 1864 at Oxford in Oxfordshire. She was the daughter of William Walter Merry and his wife Alice, born Alice Elizabeth Collings. ^{[1] [2] [3] [4]} In later life she usually wrote her second name with a "K".

In 1871 Alice C. C. Merry was living at "South Elms" in the [University] Parks at Oxford in Oxfordshire, with her parents William W. and Alice E. Merry, their other children, and her grandmother Elizabeth Merry. Her age was given as 6, implying a birth date in 1864 or 1865. Her birthplace was given as Oxford, Oxfordshire. She was at school. ^[2]

Charles Robert Leslie Fletcher, aged 21 or over, a Fellow of All Souls College, of All Saints, son of Alexander Pearson Fletcher, gentleman; and Alice Katharine Collings Merry, aged 20, of St Giles, Oxford, daughter of William Walter Merry, Rector of Lincoln College; were married at All Saints parish church in Oxford on 12 March 1885. The witnesses were called A. P. Fletcher and A. E. Merry [probably the groom's father and bride's mother]. The ceremony was conducted by the bride's father. ^[3]

In 1911 Alice Katharine Collings Fletcher was living at 22 Norham Gardens in Oxford with her husband Charles Robert Leslie Fletcher. Her age was given as 46, implying a birth date in 1864 or 1865. Her birthplace was given as St Giles, Oxford. It was stated that Charles and Alice had been married for 26 complete years and had had 3 children together, all of whom were still living. ^[4]

Alice Katherine Collings Fletcher died at Oxford on 22 January 1939 at the age of 74. ^{[5] [6]}
