In the 1871 Census, is this them? Mother Catherine is dead or not at home.
In the 1881 Scottish Census James, 14, was working as a farm servant for Roderick McDonald on his farm at Pettyvaich, Kiltarlity, Inverness, Scotland.
James married Flora McPherson in Old or West Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire in 1889[3]. He was a 22-year old Iron Presser, living in Robb's Land, Yoker (an area of tenements on the banks of the River Clyde), and Flora was a 24-year old domestic servant, living at 24, St James St, Hillhead, Glasgow.
What was it brought James, the son of a shepherd, born in the Highlands, and working there on a farm in 1881, down to Glasgow to be married eight years later?
James and Flora then immediately emigrated to Queensland, Australia, and then to New Zealand.
His gravestone in Maunu Cemetery, Whangarei, Whangarei District, Northland, New Zealand says "In Loving Memory of James Ingram, died 10th November 1942, Aged 77, Peace, Perfect Peace". (This would make his birth year 1825.)[4]
