Betty Young Tempel, 87, Lexington, MO , passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, MO . Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 5, at Walker-Nadler Chapel, 1720 South Street, Lexington, MO . Burial will be a private service at Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Saturday, prior to service at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Presbyterian Women of the Lexington Church, c/o First Presbyterian Church, Tenth and Franklin Streets, Lexington, MO 64067.

Betty Peyton Young was born July 26, 1914, the daughter of Philip Chalmers and Anne Tabb Young. She graduated from Marshall, MO High School and Christian College in Columbia, MO . She married Forrest Fredrick Tempel on May 2, 1936. They owned and operated the Tempel Funeral Home from 1938 to 1961. Her parents as well as her brother, Chalmers Young, who died November 22, 1992, preceded Mrs. Tempel in death. Mr. Tempel died May 11, 1974. Mrs. Tempel was a member of First Presbyterian Church and its women's organizations, Friends of Arrow Rock, Lexington Library and Historical Society, Lafayette Regional Hospital Auxiliary and a past president of the Lexington Garden Club. She is survived by her son, William Chalmers Tempel and his wife, Davoren, Lee's Summit, MO ; two grandchildren, Tracie Anne Tempel, Kansas City, MO and William Forrest Tempel and wife, Sarah of Fort Worth, TX. She has two great-granddaughters, Peyton Elizabeth Tempel and Katherine Elaine Tempel of Fort Worth. Her nephews, Philip Chalmers Young of Kansas City, MO and Fredrick Morris Tempel and wife, Abigail of Lexington, MO and her cousins, James Winn Tabb and his wife, Kathleen and Peyton Tabb and his wife, Mary, all of Tryon, SC also survive Mrs. Tempel.
