Biography
The daughter of [Beach-6594|Apollos Beach]] and Mary (Osgood) Beach, Sarah was born in New Britain in 1838.[1] Her mother passed away 1865, and Sarah stayed in her father's household. In 1870, that household included John L. Osgood, a nephew of her mother.[2] Sarah married Ethiel North (1821-1899), the son of Reuben North and Amanda Austin, following the death of his first wife, Mabel Cornwall Strickland, in 1869. In 1880, Sarah and Ethiel lived at her family's farm in New Britain.[3] Her husband passed away in 1899. In 1900, Sarah lived in the home of Edwin and Ada Beach, having her own household there, one that included Ruth N. Beach, the daughter of Sarah's brother, Jeremiah. Jermiah and his family lived next door.[4] Ruth worked as a stenographer at a factory office, as she did in 1910, still residing with and a companion to Sarah in New Britain.[5]
Sarah passed away in Winstead, Connecticut at the age of 77 after suffering a cervical spine fracture from a fall down the stairs at the Winsted Girls Club at 9:00 pm. According to the obituary, Sarah and her brother, Jeremiah, along with his wife, had come to Winsted that night to visit their sister, Sophia Sweet.[6] She is buried at Fairview Cemetery in New Britain.[7]
