John Lew Pittsley Jr was born on 2 December 1819, in Cuba, Cuba, Allegany, New York, United States, His father was John Lew Pittsley Sr., and his mother, Sarah 'Polly' Evans. He married Adeline A. Halstead in 1844, in Allegany, New York, United States. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 5 daughters. He lived in Boone, Illinois, United States for about 11 years and Scott, Crawford, Wisconsin, United States for about 34 years. He died on 29 August 1904, in Mount Zion, Crawford, Wisconsin, United States, at the age of 84, ^[1]and was buried in Union Hill Cemetery, Mount Zion, Crawford, Wisconsin, United States.^[2]

John Pittsley came to Scott town, Crawford county, in 1869, where he owns 120 acres of land on section 28 and forty acres on section 29, making his home on the latter section. Mr. Pittsley is a native of Alleghany Co., N. Y., where he lived until twenty-two years of age. He then went to Boone Co., Ill., remaining there several years and, in 1850, going to Grant Co., Wis., and living on Castle Rock until coming to Scott town. Mr. Pittsley married, in 1844, in New York, Adeline Halstead. They have had nine children, five of whom are living—Hannah A., wife of John S. Lindsley, of Nebraska^[3]; Almeda, wife of Jehiel Day, residing in this town; Theodore, married and is living in this town; Adell, also married, to Samuel Turk is living in this town^[4]; Ervin, living at home; Mary married Jonathan Watson.

His age, stated on John's U.S., Civil War Draft Registrations Records, 1863-1865 which states his age as 43 in Jul 1863.
