Biography
William H. Cheairs was born in 1841 in Tennessee. Though some have suggested that he is the son of Thomas Cheairs and Harriet Raimey, that couple's son William Robert was born in Mississippi, rather than Tennessee, died in 1863 and was buried in Maury County, Tennessee. [1] In 1860, the present William H. Cheairs is enumerated on the federal censsus in Yalobusha County, Mississippi. [2] On 19 April 1861 William enlisted in the MIssissippi 15th Infantry at Grenada, Mississippi. [3] In 1867 he married Margaret Barnard in Yalobusha County, Mississippi. [4] In 1870 they are enumerated on the federal census in Sunflower, Mississippi. [5]
