Joyce M. Vilas was born in Shasta County, California, on 16 May 1904, the daughter of Walter M. Vilas and Blanche B. (Hardy) Vilas,[1][2] with whom she was living at Chico, California, in 1910 at the age of five[3] and at Whittier, California, in 1920, at the age of 15.[4]
Marriages
Joyce M. Vilas married Joseph T. Hopkins in Los Angeles County, California, on 28 Dec 1927.[5] They were living at Baldwin Park, California, when their only child, Viola Fae Hopkins, was born at the Covina Hospital in Covina, California, on 20 Oct 1928,[6] and they were living at Covina in 1930.[7] Joseph T. Hopkins died at Covina, following an operation for a ruptured duodenal ulcer, on 1 Jan 1931.[8]
The widow Joyce (Vilas) Hopkins married the widower Harry Eugene Rea. On 31 Aug 1931, Harry Eugne Rea, 33, and Joyce Vilas Hopkins, 25, both of Canoga Park, California, published their intention to marry.[9] In 1940, they were living at Los Angeles, California, with a 10-year-old daughter from Joyce's first marriage, a nine-year-old son from Harry's, and a 10-month old son.[10] Harry E. Rea died on 13 Feb 1964.[11] Joyce is named as Joyce Rea of North Hollywood, California, in the obituary of her brother, Raymond Marcellus Vilas (1906-1971), who died on 30 Nov 1971.[12]
Death
Joyce M. (Vilas) (Hopkins) Rae of Los Angeles, California, died on 2 Apr 1992.[13][2] Her gravestone at the Oakwoof Memorial Park in Los Angeles is inscribed with the dates 1904-1992.[14]
