Biography

Mary was born in 1849, the daughter of Jacob Walter. She became the second wife of Ezra Roush sometime between 1871-1875,^[1] with whom she had at least two children—Clara Roush (1876) and Franklin Rouch (1878). Mary passed away in 1881 and is buried at Globe Mills Cemetery in Snyder County, Pennsylvania.^[2]

Notes and Clarifications

All online family trees that I've found state that Charles Ammon Meiser was the son of Mary Walter, who his father John S Meiser married in 1869 and who passed away in 1881. All of that is true except the "married" part. John S married Mary Jane Luck in November 1869 in Snyder County. His mother Mary Walter became the second wife of widower Ezra Roush between 1871 and 1875, also in Snyder County, Pennsylvania. All of the misinformation appears to have come from the biographical sketch that Charles wrote for the 1913 publication "A History of the Juniata Valley and its People" in which he stated:

"On February 13, 1869, a son, Charles Ammon, was born to John S Meiser and Mary Ann Jane Walter, a daughter of Jacob Walter, both living in Middle Creek Township: Mary Ann Jane was born in 1850 and died April 13, 1881."^[3]

All of that is true, and he never stated that they were married; that is an assumption made by others who have created family trees. His parents are given on his death certificate as John S Meiser and Mary Walter.
