Biography

. Info from HATHCOCK Book vol VI page 352 6.11: 1817 Alfred A. HATHCOCK, son of John and Mary HATHCOCK, was born in Bedford County, Tennessee about 1817. The first mention of Alfred is found in the Land Records of Bibb County, Alabama where 1818 his parents had moved about 1818.

1839 On 20 September 1839, Alfred purchased land from the U.S. Government The certificate number was 10.194 recorded in Volume 40, page 404 of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management Records and also recorded in Bibb County Deed Book A-2, page 719. The date of recording was delayed until 24 Jul 1890. The land was described as NE 1/4 of SW 1/4 of Section 29, twsp 21, of Range 6W. Several years before, Alfred's father, John, and his brother, Seaborn, had purchased land adjacent to this plot.

1840 There has been no marriage record of Alfred found in Bibb County. However, the St. Clair County, Alabama records indicate that an Alfred HEATHCOCK married Malinda McDANIEL there on 2 November 1840. (Alfred A. HATHCOCK's brother Fern H. HATHCOCK married Lucinda McDANIEL in Bibb County, Alabama on 7 November 1841.)

1841 INFO FROM "EARLY EAST TENN. MARRIAGES" VOL 1. ALFRED HEATHCOCK TO REBECCA B. WATSON ON 30 DEC. 1846 (1840)in LINCOLN CO

1841-42 Alfred's parents and his brothers had moved from Bibb County, Alabama to Tippah County, Mississippi about 1841 or 1842 and a special Census of Tippah County lists Alfred as a resident there in 1845.

1845 The next record of Alfred is found in Pontotoc County, Mississippi land records. On 24 March 1845, Alfred A. HEATHCOCK "from Tippah County" Mississippi sold 80 acres of land to Alexander MORGAN. The land is described as N 1/2 of NW 1/4 of Section 21, twsp 7, range 2 east of the boundry of the meridian of the Chickasaw Cession, recorded in Deed Book 5, page 635.

1845 Special census of Tippah County Mississippi: dated 19 Aug 1845. Alford HEATHCOCK as head of household: 1 male and 2 female.

1846 Tennessee State Marriages, 1780-2002 record page 126; Alfred HEATHCOCK to Rebecca B. WATSON. dated 30 Dec 1846. Lincoln Co., TN.

Esten E. male age 1 (born 1848-1849) in AL. ---- 1860 By 1860 Alfred and his family had moved back to Mississippi. They were enumerated in the 1860 Census of Tishimingo Co. MS. P.O. Eastport

1860 Census of Tishimingo Co. MS. page 403 house # 2729: Alfred A. HEATHCOCK age 44 Farmer real $3000, personal 100, Born TN. Rebecca HEATHCOCK age 37 cannot read or write Born TN. Dixon R. HEATHCOCK age 13 in school Born AL. ANN N. HEATHCOCK age 5 Born AL.

The record of Alfred A. HEATHCOCK ends with the 1860 census. The 1870 census records have not been thoroughly searched and he does not appear in the 1880 census records.
