Biography

Birth

Nothing is known of the ancestry of John Dollison. The 1800 Census shows him between 26 and 44 years old,^[1] and the 1810 Census says he was over 45.^[2] Based on these ages, the date of his marriage, and the date of his enlistment for Revolutionary War Service, 1760 is a reasonable estimate of his birth date.

Revolutionary War Service

On 19 Mar 1777, John Dollison enlisted for service as a private for the duration of the war in the company of Captain Matthew Fairfield in the 13th Massachusetts Regiment of the Continental Army, commanded by Colonel Edward Wigglesworth.^[3][4] His widow was granted a Revolutionary War widow's pension in 1839.^[5]

Marriage

John Dollison of Sterling, Massachusetts, married Esther Sawyer of Lancaster, Massachusetts, at Lancaster on 4 Jul 1786.^[6]

Death

No record has been found of the death of John Dollison. The 1810 Census is the last record found of him. The Revolutionary War pension application of his widow Esther, filed in 1839, says that he died in September 1817 in St. Lawrence County, New York.^[5]
