Biography

Birth

Andrew McNally III was born at Chicago, Illinois, on 17 Aug 1909, the son of Andrew F. W. McNally and Eleanor Ward (Vilas) McNally.^[1]

Marriage

Andrew McNally III married Margaret Clark-MacMillin at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in New York City on 20 Nov 1936.^[2] They were the parents of two sons and a daughter.^[3] In 1940, they were living at Greenwich, Connecticut, with two children and three servants.^[4]

Military Service

Andrew McNally III served as an officer in the United States Army during World War II.^[3]

Career

After graduating from Yale University in 1931, Andrew McNally III joined his family's business, Rand McNally & Company. He was named its president in 1948, the fourth generation to head the company, and he remained in that capacity until 1974, when his son, Andrew McNally IV, succeeded him. He was the chairman of the company from 1974 to 1993.^[3] A photo of him appears on his FindAGrave site,^[5] and a photo with his father and son Andrew appears on his father's memorial.^[6]

Death

Andrew McNally III died at his home in Chicago, Illinois, on 15 Nov 2001, at the age of 92.^[3][7] A FindAGrave memorial with no gravestone photo and citing no sources says that he is buried in the Bellevue section of the Graceland Cemetery in Chicago, plot 18, grave 19.^[5]
