Biography

Sarah was born in about 1833 in Holbeton, Devon, England. She was the daughter of James Walke.^[1]

In 1856 Sarah married Joseph Bastain in East Stonehouse, Plymouth. ^[2][3]

In 1861 Sarah was living in Stoke Damerel. She was 28 and a washer woman, married to Joseph Bastian and with 2 daughters; Ann aged 4 and Eliza Jane aged 1.^[4] Joseph died on 5 January 1862 and was buried on 7 January in Stoke Damere. At the time of his death they were living on Paradise Row.

In 1864 Sarah married Samuel Rowlands in Stoke Damerel.^[5]

In 1871 Sarah and Samuel were living in Holbeton with sons Samuel R aged 4 and Charles E aged 1, along with Sarah's son Joseph Bastian aged 8.^[6]

In the 1901 census Sarah (age about 68) was living in Holbeton, Devon, England.^[1]
