Biography

Anne Burton was born about 1670, daughter of Justice Burton of Longnor in Shropshire. [1]

Anne, daughter of Thomas Burton & Elizabeth Burton, was baptised on 31 July 1673 in Shropshire, England.[2]

She married widower, Sir Walter Wrottesley Bt., and was mother of his children, Walter, Margaret and Anne.[1]

By his second wife Sir Walter left a son Walter, and two daughters, Margaret, born in June 1696, who appears to have died unmarried, and Anne, who married Thomas Hutchinson of Woodhall, co. Hereford, and of Owthorpe, co. Notts. She was baptised at Brewood on the 22nd September 1702. It appears that in 1694 the manor of Somerford, with the capital mansion and lands in Somerford, Horsebrook, Stretton and Brewood, late the estate of John Somerford, Esq., Robert Miles, and Roger Ward, were settled by Fine and Recovery on Dame Anne, the wife of Sir Walter.

Dame Anne Wrottesley, by will dated 27th July 1729, devised to her daughter Anne, the wife of Thomas Hutchinson, Esq., of Owthorpe, co. Notts, her brotherton Hall, co. Salop, and Peter Meyrick of the Bank of England, Esq., in trust to sell the same, and it was sold in 1734 for "5,400 to Robert Barbor, Esq., of the Inner Temple.

Dame Anne Wrottesley was buried at Brewood on the 10th of July 1732, having survived her husband for more than twenty years. The courtly Vicar of Brewood describes her in his Register as "The Honorable Lady Anne Wrot- tesley of Somerford, widow."

Anne died on 1 July 1732 and was buried in St Mary and St Chad Churchyard, Brewood, South Staffordshire Borough, Staffordshire, England.[3]
