Biography

Mark Anthony Browne was baptised at Easebourne in Sussex on 10th March 1744/5. The parish register records : "Mark Anthony Brown ye son of Mark Brown Esquire (his parents being of the Romish Persuasion) was said to be baptised March 10th 1744 (1744/5)". ^[1]

Until he succeeded to the Viscountcy on the death of the 8th Viscount, George Samuel Browne (died October 1793), Mark Anthony Browne was a friar living at Fontainbleau in France. ^[2]

A Faculty Office marriage licence was issued on 3rd February 1797 for 'Mark Anthony Browne' to marry 'Frances Manby'. The couple were married at Little Bursted in Essex on the 6th February 1797 'Anthony Browne, bachelor, of Westbury in Gloucestershire' and 'Frances Manby, spinster, of Little Bursted in Essex.'^[3]

'Mark Anthony Browne Lord Viscount Montague' made his Will on 13th November 1797, in which he confirmed the settlement which was made upon his marriage with 'my beloved wife Frances Lady Montague' just nine months before. He also made bequests to his sister Dame Anastasia Mannock the widow of Sir Thomas Mannock, Bart. and the children of his late sister Mrs Mary du Moulin. His executors were named as his wife Frances, Lady Montague, his uncle Sir Thomas Moore, Bart., and his sister Dame Anastasia Mannock. ^{[4] [5]}

'Mark Anthony Browne, Lord Viscount Montague' was buried at Midhurst parish church on the 7th December 1797^[6][7], and his Will was proved on the 26th January 1798.
