Biography

Caroline Palser was born about 1838 in Lambeth, London. She was the daughter of Samuel Palser and Eleanor Abrams.[1]

In 1841 Caroline Palser was age 5, living at Lambeth, Surrey, England with her parents Samuel Palser (30) and Eleanor Palser (25) and siblings Henry Palser (7), Samuel Palser (3) and Eleanor Palser (2). Also Emma Crabb (18).[1]

In 1851 Caroline Palser was age 15, living at Lambeth, Surrey, England with her parents Samuel Palser (39) and Ellen Palser (34) and siblings Henry Palser (17), Samuel Palser (13), Eleanor Palser (12) and Frederick Palser (10).[2]

Caroline Palser married Walter James Barrett-Lennard on 18 February 1854 in Lambeth, London.[3] Note: the marriage registration incorrectly lists the ages of Walter and Caroline "as of full age".

Walter and Caroline Barrett-Lennard had five children: Mary Jane Matilda Barrett Lennard (b. 1855), William Barrett Lennard (b. 1857), Hardinge Barrett-Lennard (b. 1859), John Barrett-Lennard (b. 1863) and Villiers Barrett-Lennard (b. 1865). Note: for some of the children, mother's maiden name at registration is given as Dormer rather than Palser (possibly an error at the time or recording).

In 1861 the Barrett-Lennards, incorrectly transcribed as Banett Seward, or just Seward, were living in Blackawton, Devon, England. Caroline Banett Seward (sic) was age 23, living with her husband Walter J (26) and children Mary Jane Ohaldon Seward (sic) (5), William Jane Oldam Seward (sic) (3) and Harding Jane Oldham Seward (sic) (1). Also a nurse and four other servants.[4]

In 1881 Caroline B Leonnard (sic) was age 42, living at Richmond, Surrey, England with her husband Walter J B Leonnard (sic) (46), married daughter Mary J Monat (sic) (25), Mary's husband, John H Monat (sic) (33), and sons Harding B Lennard (21), John B Leonnard (sic) (17) and Villiers B Leonnard (sic) (15).[5]

Caroline's husband Walter Barrett-Lennard died in 1899 in Folkestone, Kent.

In 1901 Caroline Barrett-Lennard was age 63, living at Folkestone, Kent England with her granddaughter Caroline Lennard (15) (daughter of Villiers Barrett-Lennard). Also Emma Carter (25) and Annie Newman (24), servants.[6]

In 1911 Caroline Barrett-Lennard was age 73, living at Folkestone, Kent England. She was listed as grandmoether-in-law to the head of the household.[7]

Caroline Barrett-Lennard died in 1922 in Folkestone, Kent, age 84.[8] She was buried at Cheriton Road Cemetery, Folkestone, Kent.[9]
