He was the son of Charles Cotterell, Master of the Ceremonies to King George II and Elizabeth Chute.
Admitted at age 18 to Pembroke College, Cambridge on 22 December 1716. B.A. 1720. [1]
Ordained priest (Peterborough) on 31 May 1724.
D.D. (Oxford) on 1 March 1733-4 from Trinity College Dublin. [2]
On 26 June 1725 he was presented as Dean of Raphoe; and was instituted on July 22. [D. R.].
His patent for Bishop of Ferns and Leighlin is dated 24 March 1743. He was consecrated on June 19th, at Christ Church, Dublin, by the Archbishop of Dublin, assisted by the Bishops of Kildare and Derry.
He died in England on the 21 June 1744.
