Cecil de Burgh Gordon Persse, the son of Henry Persse and Eleanor Seymour, was born on 17 July 1875 at Rahoon, Galway, county Galway, Ireland.[1][2]
He graduated from Cambridge University with a B.A. in 1898. [3]
Cecil de Burgh Persse died in 1915 at Royal Victoria Military Hospital, (Netley Military Hopsital). [4][5] Lieutenant Cecil de Burgh G. Persse, 7th Dragoon Guards, attached to the Irish Guards (died in hospital on July 19th of wounds received in action in Flanders on May 18th) was the youngest son of the late Henry and Eleanor Persse of Glenarde, Galway, and was forty years of age. He was in the Cavalry Reserve of Officers before the break of war, having been gazetted to a commission as second lieutenant in the 7th Dragoon Guards in April, 1912. In the South African War (1899-1902) Lieutenant Persse served with the Imperial Yeomanry, and took part in the operations in various Colonies. For these services he received the Queen’s medal with three clasps and the King’s medal with two clasps.
Mr. C. de B. Persse was a brother of Mr. Harry Persse, of Chattis Hill, Stockbridge and nephew of the late Burton Persse of Moyade (sic) Castle, so long Master of the Galway Blazers.[6] Lieutenant Persse
