Biography

Harley was born in Kansas in 1880. He was the son of James Warfield Martin and Dora A. Hagan. When Harley was four years old, his family moved to a farm in the Town of Buena Vista, Richland County, Wisconsin. He went to Sextonville, Wisconsin High School and attended the Wisconsin Business College, and then took a short course in agriculture at the University of Wisconsin.

Harley Martin and his father raised Red Poll cattle at the family farm. Harley married Miss Georgiana Stoddard in 1903. They a moved to Richland Center, Wisconsin in 1919. Harley and Georgiana raised six children.

Mr. Martin served on a rural school board and on the Richland Center School Board. From 1927 to 1931 and from 1933 to 1935, Harley Martin served in the Wisconsin State Assembly. In 1929, the Governor of Wisconsin Albert Schmedeman appointed him to the Wisconsin State Office Building Commission. He served as secretary of the commission until 1949.

Harley Martin died at the age of 71 in his home in Richland Center, on 21 Aug 1951. He is buried in Button Cemetery in Buena Vista, Wisconsin.
