Biography

George Leland Case was born on November 1, 1882, in Kasota, Minnesota.[1] He was an All-American football tackle at the University of Minnesota.[2] Following graduation from college, he was employed as a football coach at Whitworth College (now Whitworth University), where the students described him as "huge of body, ruddy of complexion and of a jovial nature withal."[3] When Whitworth College moved to its present location in Spokane, Washington, [4] George pursued other employment, working as a salesman and a warehouseman. For many years he was employed by the Younglove Grocery Company,[5] which sponsored the Thriftway chain of grocery stores.[6]

George married Vienna Estelle Neel on September 7, 1911.[1] In the fall of 1917, he and Vienna adopted a daughter, Elizabeth Hunt (Case) Peterson.[7]

George Case died on August 15, 1952, in Port Angeles, Washington.[8] He was buried in Groveland Cemetery in Dundas, Minnesota.[1]
