Biography
On Jhon's son James' marriage record in 1853, John's occupation is given as fell-monger - Wikipedia occupation description -[1] At the the time he died - in 1840 - he was a glover - as recorded by his daughter Mary who registered his death. The two occupations would have been allied, since the gloves would have been made of leather and it may be that John prepared the hides he used as a glover.
In the Cornwall OPC database the only John Ching recorded in Stratton at around the time of his birth has parents named Thomas Ching and Elizabeth (surname not given)
In 1840 the deaths column of the newspaper Royal Cornwall Gazette 21 August carried the report that John Ching had died on the 12th inst. after a long and painful illness - which his death record staes was dropsy. [2] He was 65.
