Biography

Clarissa Greenough Lindsley, aka: Linzey, was born about 1775. She is the eldest daughter of Jonathan Lindsley. And the first wife of Solomon Bartlett. She passed away in 1827. After her passing, Solomon married her younger sister, Betsey. Betsey is the second daughter of Jonathan Lindsley. Solomon Bartlett was a member of the Herring Pond Indian community and a seaman by trade.^[1]

Clarissa and Betsey appear to have another younger sister who was born about 20 years later, named Phebe Lindsley . Phebe Lindsley was born in Yarmouth, Massachusetts in the winter of 1797. She was the daughter of Jonathan and Phebe Lindsley, members of the Herring Pond tribal community. She married John N. Conet (Conant) and had three children: Cynthia, Marcia, and William R.^[2]

Marriage:

• 31 May 1817: Clarisse Greenough Linzey and Solomon Bartlett published their marriage intentions in Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts.^[3]
• June 1817: Clarissa Linzey and Solomon Bartlett, People of Color. Marriage Solemnized by Rev. Seth Stetson of Plymouth, in Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts.^[4]
• In 1849, after Clarissa has passed away, Solomon is listed as a member of the Herring Pond Wampanoag Tribe.^[5]

Death:

• 1775-08 Jan 1827: Clarissa Bartlett was 52yo when she passed away. Tombstone states that she is the wife of Solomon Bartlett. She was laid to rest at Herring Pond Cemetery, Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts.^[6]

Possible family members:

1. In 1861, there is a Lindsay family listed on the Earle Report. They are members of the Fall River Wampanoag Tribe and living in Fall River, (Massachusetts?). ^[7]
