Research Notes

It is unclear who was the father of Benjamin Myers. It appears that his mother, Mary Catherine Myers was never married. During the 1900 US Census he and his older brother and sister, Earlie Harrison Everhart and Lydia Jane Myers were living with their mother, who was the head of household in Thomasville Township, Davidson, NC. All three children were listed with the last name of Everhart. Also, Earlie and Benjamin are linked as the children of James Cicero Everhart on his "Find a Grave" memorial page (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/6768026/james-cicero-everhart : accessed 9 March 2022). He lived in Thomasville, NC. Earlie's Mariage license lists his father as "unknown". His death certificate lists both his father and mother as unknown. Lydia's death certificate lists her father as unknown. On Benjamin's marriage certificate from 1923 leaves the name of his father blank. In 1943, Benjamin was able to obtain a "Delayed Certificate of Birth Registration" from the Davidson County, NC Register of Deeds and the Director of Vital Statistics that his father was a Jefferson Davis Myers, who was born in Davidson County in 1861, a year before his mother was born. The Certificate lists the evidence as being an insurance policy reference, an affidavit of personal knowledge, and a family bible reference.

Why was Benjamin still listed as a son of James Cicero Everhart on his "Find a Grave" memorial page? Another interesting fact is that James had a daughter named Mary Catherine Everhart, who is listed as the daughter of James's wife, Eliza Lohr, but that James and Eliza were not married until 1884.

Mary Catherine Myers also had another daughter who was listed on her 1900 US Census record named Maude Elizabeth Everhart, who was born in April 1885, but no further record for her has been found.

Jefferson Davis Myers was born in 1867 in Davidson County, NC and died in 1920 in Davidson County, NC according to his "Find a Grave" memorial page (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/6768185/jefferson-davis-myers : accessed 9 March 2022). However, it is questionable that he could be the person listed on Benjamin's Delayed Birth Certificate.
