Biography

When Sarah Elizabeth Christy was born on January 27, 1856, in Newton, Missouri, her father, William, was 27, and her mother, Martha, was 27.

She married Joseph Steven Simpson in about 1872, estimate based on when their 1st child was born (Marriage Record needed). In the 1880 War Eagle census, their children were William H. Simpson at age 7, Mary A. Simpson, age 5, George R. Simpson, age 3 and James D. Simpson 7 months. On one side, they lived in a dwelling next to his sister Sarah and her husband Wayman Walden and on the other side was Elizabeth (Phillips) Seah, daughter of Rebecca Hawkins and Reuben Phillips. Rebecca was likely Alexander "Zan" Hawkins aunt and Zan was the husband of Francis Simpson, sister of Joseph and Sarah Simpson. Rebecca wrote letters to her daughter in 1880 referring several times to Sarah Simpson who could either have been Joseph's wife or Joseph's sister (Source: Rebecca (Hawkins) Phillips letters).

In the 1900 War Eagle census, Sarah and Joseph had nine children in their home, including two adult sons, George and Dice, and 9 month old baby Howard.

Based on census data, Ancestry.com trees, Howard's birth record and Martha Corca's and Clyde Eva's marriage records, their children were identified as:

William H. Simpson, 1873– Mary A. Simpson, 1875– George R. Simpson, 1877–1975 James Dice Simpson, 1880–1963 Walter T. Joseph is believed to have died in 1900 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 47 (source needed). Cause of death or burial place could not be found. Sarah and their two youngest kids, Clyde and Howard, moved in with their son Walter and his family. Sarah was listed as "widowed" and "mother" in the 1910 census for Walter's family in Pottawatomie, Oklahoma, Oklahoma, USA.

She died on July 17, 1910, in Pottawatomie, Oklahoma, at the age of 54.
