Biography
Amos was born in Grundy County, Tennessee in 1860. He was the son of Stephen Tipton and Louisa Griswold. He grew up in Altamont and Grainger County in Anderson household[1] and the Tipton household.[2][3]
In 1882, Amos married Maggie Armstrong in Grundy County.[4] In 1892, he married Hettie Smart in Texas.[5] They later divorced.
He passed away in Austin in 1942.[6] He was buried at the Austin State Hospital Cemetery.[7]
Research Notes
FindAGrave lists Amos' birth year as 1865; this is pulled from the 1900 census, which lists his birth day as "Oct 1865."[8] This is erroneous, as he was 9 years old in 1870 and 19 in 1880, making his birth date most likely Oct 1860.
