Biography

✡ Family-Info ✡

The Goldschmidt family is of Ashkenazi origin and originally came from a family of money changers and bankers who settled in Frankfurt's Judengasse (Frankfurt am Main) in 1521 in the house Goldener Schwan. They had originally come to Frankfurt, like other Jewish families, after being expelled from Nuremberg in 1498.

The Goldschmidt family was connected professionally and familially especially with the German-Jewish banking family Bischoffsheim from Mainz and since the 18th century with the Jewish Rothschild family from Frankfurt/Main, whose lineage can be documented in Germany from 1500.

In 1903, the name von Goldschmidt-Rothschild was elevated first to the Prussian simple nobility, followed in 1907 by the elevation to the Prussian baronage.

The British branch of the family anglicized its family name to Goldsmith.

The French branch changed its name during the First World War to Goldet.
Regine (Goldschmidt) Oppenheim has Jewish Roots.

Regine Rechele Goldschmidt was born on 8 August 1815 in Frankfurt am Main, Herzogtum Nassau, Deutsches Reich, daughter of Benedikt Salomon Goldschmidt (1769–1826) and Sabine Sprinze Sophie Braunschweig (~1785–1855).[1]

Her siblings were:

  1. Meyer Benedikt Goldschmidt (17 October 1796 – 12 April 1861)
  2. Amalia (Goldschmidt) Noether (23 December 1802 – 16 May 1843)

Regine (24) married Nathan Marcus Oppenheim (29) (born on 8 April 1810 in Frankfurt am Main, Herzogtum Nassau, Deutsches Reich) on 16 Feb 1840 in Frankfurt am Main.

Their known daughter was Charlotte Esther (Oppenheim) Warburg (24 February 1842 – 13 October 1921).

Regine passed away on ✡ 15 March 1903 in Frankfurt am Main, Hessen-Nassau, Preußen, Deutsches Reich, aged 87.
