Biography

Not much is known about Richard Glover who lived in or near Lydd, Kent, England and had children christened there and at Old Romney about 3 miles away. Very possibly he was the Richard Glover baptized at All Saints, Lydd on 25 Dec 1552 (no parents listed). This would make him just shy of 21 years old at marriage, a bit young but very possible.^[1]

Richard Glover married Alice Ward on 12 Sep 1573 at St. Clement's church at Old Romney, Kent about 3 miles from Lydd.^[2] A reasonable baptism record for Alice Ward (assuming that was her surname at birth) has not yet been found.

The following parish register entries in addition to those listed above related to Richard have been found at St. Clement, Old Romney and at All Saints Lydd:

• 22 Jul 1560 Richard Glover married Margaret Epps at Old Romney, it is possible that he was the father of some of the children below and some others such as William christened in 1562 where no parent was listed.
• 25 Oct 1573 Tamesin daughter of Richard baptized at Old Romney
• 6 Jan 1575 John son of Richard baptized at Old Romney; a John Glover started having children baptized here about 1595, very likely this same man
• 20 Sep 1579 Robert baptized at Lydd, no parent listed but most likely the "Robert son of Richard" buried at Lydd on 9 Apr 1583
• 9 Sep 1582 John baptized at Old Romney, no parent listed but if the John born 1575 was the one having children in the mid 1590s then this John was likely the son of Edmond or another Glover.
• 5 May 1583 Alice daughter of Richard baptized at Lydd
• 10 Aug 1592 Tomsen (Tamesin) Glover married Richard Lee presumably the daughter of Richard and Alice
• 24 Jul 1641 Alice Glover was buried at Old Romney with no supplemental text on the transcription. Possibly this was Alice Ward widow of Richard Glover, that would make her probably close to 90 years old so it may have been a different Alice Glover.

Note that an Edmund and a John Glover also appear in marriage records and as a father at the same place and time, very possibly relatives of Richard.

Death & Estate

He "might" have been the RIchard Glover buried 2 Apr 1588 at All Saints Lydd with no supplemental text on the transcription.^[3]
