Biography

Johanna (Hansen) Jorgenson was born in Denmark

Johanna Hansen was born about 1867 in Denmark.

About 1887 she emigrated to the United States. Johanna married Andrew Jorgeson (formerly Gregers Peter Andersen) of Denmark, either in Denmark or the United States.

In 1889 she had a son Ailer/Eiler Jorgenson in Moody, South Dakota, United States. In the same place, they had a daughter Margaret Jorgeson in 1892.

Soon, they moved to Troy township, Pipestone, Minnesota, United States. There, Andrew worked as a farmer, and they had another son Harry, in 1894.^[1]

In 1900 they were living in Byron township, Cass, Minnesota, United States. They sadly had an unknown baby pass away, and then had a daughter (Sine C or Sine K) Kathlyn Jorgeson born in 1898.^[2]

In 1905 they were living in Moose Lake township, Cass Minnesota where they had another daughter Carrie the year before. Eiler was now working as a farm laborer for his father on the farm. ^[3]

After that their youngest, a son Leslie, was born in Minnesota about 1906.

Sadly, Johanna's husband Andrew passed away before 1910.

In 1910, Johanna (widowed), was living in Valley City, Barnes, North Dakota, United States working as a laundress. She had four of the children living with her: Eiler, Kathlyn, Carrie and Leslie. Their son Harry was no longer with them. Johanna had a lodger named Millard Nearing from New York to help with expenses. Her eldest daughter Margaret would later marry his son Wilbur Nearing.^[4]

In 1915 Johanna's three youngest children were living with her oldest daughter Margaret: Kathlyn, Carrie, and Leslie in Adams, North Dakota, United States. Her oldest son Ailer married in 1917 and farmed in New Hope, Morton, North Dakota, United States. Her daughter Kathlyn was married in 1918.

Johanna herself married a German butcher who was born in Wisconsin and previously resided in Minnesota: Charles Schave. He seems to have been married twice before. In 1920 they lived in Valley City, Barnes, North Dakota, United States with her two youngest children: Carrie and Leslie Jorgenson. Charles was a wage earner and worked in a local market. ^[5]

Her oldest daughter Margaret's marriage didn't work out and she moved to Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, United States. All of Joanna's living children except Ailer ended up living in California: Margaret, Kathlyn, Caroline, and Leslie. Johanna moved there herself somewhere around 1930 after her marriage to Charles ended.^[6]

Johanna passed away in 1955 at the age of 87 years old in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, United States. She was involved in an accident that caused her to have a broken femur on the street and she died of complications in the hospital. Joanna also had arteriosclerosis.^[7][8][9] Joanna was mentioned on a memorial in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Gardena, Los Angeles County, California, United States with a death date of 1955.^[10]
