Horace was born in 1873, fifth and youngest child of William Martineau and Margaretta Mason.[1]
He won the Victoria Cross in 1900 in Mafeking, under General Baden Powell, for gallantry.[2]
He married, first, Florence Isabella Bellson in 1900.[3] They had no children.
After Florence's death in 1908 he married, second, Amy Elizabeth Werdmuller in 1909.[4] They had one daughter, Daphne (b 1910).
He died in Dunedin, New Zealand in 1916 and is buried at Andersons Bay Cemetery.[5]
