Biography

Joshua Thurman was born about 17 February 1789 in White, Tennessee, the son of John Lawson Thurman (1755-1826) and Mary Little (1760-1834).

He married Margaret “Peggy” Ramsey (1782-1845) on his birthday in 1813 in Garrard, Kentucky. Josua and Peggy had:

• Thomas (1815-1841) unmarried
• John Ramsay (1818-1867) m. Margaret Cant,ey
• William (1821-1880) m. America Miller
• Mary Polly (1824- ) m. Elijah Wray
• Benjamin Franklin (1826-)
• Martha Elisabeth (3 July 1827 -13 February 1893) m. Dudley Parke

In 1825, he had a son, John K., by Judith Thurman, while married to William Thurman. No proof on this exists, but nothing contradicts it, either. It is unknown which household he was raised in, he has apeared in both.
