Winifred was born in spring 1881, the fourth daughter and ninth child of William Wells and Ann Ottway.[1]
The family had been living at Bromley-by-Bow, Middlesex for a few years prior, and after Winifred's birth relocated a modest distance east of the River Lea. In the developing suburb of Forest Gate, Essex, they lived at 29 Palmerston Road. Here the final three siblings were added to the family: sister Mabel and brothers William Graham and Reginald Leopold.
Eldest sibling Pinder Courtenay joined the merchant marine in 1885, leaving sister Clara Ann the eldest in the household in the 1891 census, but she married later that same year. Brother Arthur Frederick followed the seagoing path in autumn 1892, but was killed in early 1894 while on his first voyage. Undoubtedly the family were occupied in the aftermath, which taxed father William, who passed away in early 1901. The 1901 census collected later that year found Winifred living across London in Ealing, working in textiles.
At age 25 in summer 1906, Winifred married 27-year-old bank clerk Owen Henry Green in Romford.[2]
Winifred Kate Green passed away in winter 1966.[3]
