Biography

Reginald was born in summer 1886, the seventh son and twelfth and final child of William Wells and Ann Ottway.^[1]

The family had lived at 29 Palmerston Road the emerging suburb of Forest Gate, Essex. Eldest sibling Pinder Courtenay joined the merchant marine in 1885, leaving sister Clara Ann the eldest in the household in the 1891 census, but she married later that same year. Brother Arthur Frederick followed the seagoing path in autumn 1892, but was killed in early 1894 while on his first voyage. Undoubtedly the family were occupied in the aftermath, which taxed father William, who passed away in early 1901. The 1901 census found Reginald in the Forest Gate family home with mother Ann, sister Mabel and brother Henry, the elder sisters Gertie and Winifred having moved out into the working world.

Reginald Leopold Wells passed away in winter 1905.^[2]
