Biography

George Boyer was born in 1805 in Middleburg, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. His parents were Johannes "John" William Boyer (1769–1830) and Barbara Ziegler (1777–1869).^[1]

He married Salome "Sarah" Spade (1811–1888). In 1850 they had a farm in Centre Township, Union County, Pennsylvania.^[2] After Union County was subdivided in 1855, they had a farm in Perry Township, Snyder County. It is not clear if this was the same farm or if they had moved.^[3]

Their children included:

1. Samuel S. Boyer (1833–1902)
2. Charles Boyer (1835–1903)
3. Henry Boyer (1837–1909)
4. Mary Ellen Boyer (1844–1847)
5. Edwin Boyer (1848–1930)
6. Catharine Boyer (1852–1854)
7. William H. Boyer (1885–1968

George passed away in October 1893 at age 88 and was buried in Saint Johns Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Mills, Snyder County, Pennsylvania (Plot: A19).^[4]

Research Notes

• Over the years, county lines changed. When George was born in 1805, Middleburg was in Northumberland County. In 1813 part of the county was subdivided. Middleburg was then in Union County. In 1855, Union County was subdivided, and Middleburg was then in Snyder County (where it remains today), Obviously the town did not move, only the county lines changed. This history is important because his records may be in any of the three county archives.
