Private James McIntosh Patterson, New Zealand Mounted Rifles, 1st Contingent.
Husband of Mrs Mary Patterson of Inglewood, Kilcoy, Taranaki, New Zealand.
Father of John Fraser Paterson; James William Paterson; Hugh Wishart Paterson and Oma Mary Paterson.
His brother was killed in the 1st Boer War.
Died from enteric fever (typhoid) in No 3 General Military Hospital, Rondebosch, Cape Town having been crushed while watering horses during the Second Anglo Boer War. Commemorated on a Boer War memorial in Maitland Cemetery, Cape Town, South Africa. Also commemorated on a memorial for soldiers who died at No 3 General Military Hospital, Rondebosch, located in Maitland cemetery, Cape Town (name spelt Paterson). Awarded the Queen's South Africa Medal.
