Biography
Robert McMurdo was born in Scotland.
Robert Murray McMurdo was born in the parish of Cadder on 17 February 1858 and was the son of Gavin McMurdo and Janet Laing.[1][2]
On the 1861 census, Robert is living with his parents and siblings in Springfield, Cadder, Lanarkshire. His father is a quarryman.[3] On the 1871 census, Robert is living with his parents and siblings in St Ninians, Stirlingshire, and is working in the pit.[4] On the 1881 census, Robert is living in lodgings in Whyte's Hotel, 45 Candleriggs St, Glasgow and is employed as a quarryman.[5]
Robert emigrated to the United States in 1884 where he married his cousin Janet Craik McMurdo on 21 May 1887 in Lawrence, Pennsylvania, and they had two sons. Janet had followed Robert out to the States from Scotland.[6]
