David Woodrow Partain July 23, 1946 - December 4, 2009 Partain, David W., Lt. Col. USAF retired of Burlington passed away on December 4, 2009. Born in Copperhill, Tennessee to Cecil W. and Ruth S. Partain, he was raised in the sister town of McCaysville, Georgia. He was predeceased by his first wife, Valeria Bowen Partain. He is survived by his loving family: wife, Susan Sernoffsky, stepdaughter and daughter-in-law Carly Smith and Rebecca Grabiner of New York City, stepdaughter Erin Smith of New York City, and stepson Jacob Smith of Burlington. David had a distinguished 20 year career as an Air Force officer that allowed him to travel the world, and live in Korea, Iran, Egypt, and Yemen. He was honored to serve his last tour of duty at the Pentagon. Following his military service, David pursued a civilian career in corporate training at Metropolitan Atlanta Transit in Georgia and at Trumpf in Farmington, Connecticut. He was awarded a fellowship at the National Transit Institute for developing the highest rated and most innovative transit training organization in the U.S. transit industry. He taught as an adjunct instructor of sociology, psychology, and history at Tunxis Community College and pursued a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology until shortly before his death. He will be remembered as a lifelong learner with three master's degrees and a Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. He was a mentor and role model for his stepchildren, and they enjoyed a relationship of mutual love and respect. A memorial service will be held at Molloy Funeral Home, Farmington Avenue, West Hartford on Saturday, December 12 at 3:00 pm. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the David W. Partain Scholarship Fund at Tunxis Community College.
