Paulus was the mayor of Delft.
He attended the Latin school in Brielle and studied in Leiden (registered 9 Jul 1625) (FA TvB inv.nr. 1806).
In 1632 he travelled to England and France, where he was promoted to doctor of law at Angers in 1633. (FA TvB inv.nrs. 91 and 1806).
After a tour through France, he settled in Delft and was admitted as a lawyer for the Court of Holland. (Ibid.).
On 6 March 1635 he was appointed pensionary of Monnikendam. (FA TvB inv.nr s. 105 and 106.).
On 27 March 1649 he was appointed by the States as council and accountant of the Court of Auditors of the Domains of Holland and West Friesland. (GAMonnikendam, inv.nrs. 625 (27 .3.1649).
Since he had to be in The Hague on a daily basis for this position, he bought a house in 1651 and inherited Vijverberg for the sum of ƒ 25,000 (GA The Hague, NA, inv.nr. 104 (fol. 196-7,8 .4.1651).
On May 12, 1668, he was promoted to president and first council of the aforementioned Court of Auditors. In the same year he was also appointed head of Delftland. (GAMonnikendam, inv.nrs. 626 (12.5.1668);FA TvB, inv.nr. 1806.).
Death & Burial
He passed away on June 24th, 1672.
Originally it was intended to give him a state funeral with all the flam buildings and carriages that went with it. However, his son Pieter was approached by the Delft city secretary Heinsius, who, on behalf of the mayors of that city, asked him to order Paulus to the ground without showing him at the time of the day. On June 28, early in the morning, the body arrived in Delft, where it immediately went to Pietershuis on the Old Delft was brought. The next morning between four and five o'clock, Pulus was quietly buried in the family grave on the choir of the New Church.
