Birth and Origins

Captain Hibernicus Scott “Hibernia” Smyth was born 1803 & christened 16 Mar 1801, Cork, Ireland, son of Richard Smyth and (probably Mary Smith).

Christening Contined 1801 "march 17th Hibernicus Smyth son of Richard Smyth Esq. of Barley Hill" p 49 [1]

First Marriage

He married Sarah Baker on 7 July 1836 at Inishannon, County Cork, Ireland

"Captain Hibernicus Scott Smyth with his wife Sarah and son Hibernicus Richard aged 3 months left Gravesend, London on the 'Navarina' arriving in Adelaide, Australia on 6 Dec 1837. He was listed on the shipping log as a mariner and seaman giving his address as 44 Waterloo Rd, Liverpool (probably a waiting place for shipping)." [9]

New Zealand

He was one early settlers in the Green Bay in the Auckland area. He bought 550 acres on the slopes beneath Mt Atkinson between 1854-57[10]

Death and Burial

He died 1883 Auckland, New Zealand (aged 79) and was buried at Symonds Street Cemetery, Auckland, New Zealand[11]
