Biography
Charles was baptised on 1 Feb 1852 in St. Michael's Church, Gloucester which had been built the previous year[1]. His parents were John, a labourer, and Louisa Merrett of the Hamlet of St Michael[2].
Charles married Harriett Elizabeth Field on 30 April 1868 in the parish church (Established Church) in Saul after publication of banns. He was 28; she was 29, both born in Saul; neither had been previously married. Charles was a Mariner. Charles' father was John Merrett, a Wool Worker. Harriett's father was Samuel Field, a Waterman. Witnesses were George and Charles Field, Adela Gower and Mary Ann Washbourne[3].
Charles' daughter Ada was born in Saul, Gloucestershire, England in 1873 and baptised in the Church of England on 15 May 1873 His wife was Harriett Elizabeth Merrett. Charles was a Waterman[4][5][6][7][8].
