Biography

Bessie was Ojibwe.

Elizabeth was born in 1885. She was the daughter of Henri Helm, born in England, and Nanette Memashkawash.^[1] Bessie was 1/2 Chippewa.^[2]

In 1900, Bessie was residing with her mother, Nanette (May-maush-ko-waush) Gagnon and her step-father, Peter T Gagnon at Sheep Island, Cook County, Minnesota.^[3]

Bessie married Godfrey Plante on 19 August 1901 at Cook County, Minnesota.^[4]

She passed away in 1987.^[5] She was interred with her husband at Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans, Louisiana.^[6]

It is not known if her mother was ever married to her father.
