Biography

Joseph was born in Volhynia Colony in the souther Ukraine, the son of Peter Jacob Graber and Elisabeth Goering. They arrived in 1874 (24 Aug) in New York aboard SS City of Chester, and first settled in Marion, Turner, South Dakota, where their first 2 daughters, Alvina (7Dec 1898) and Martha (13 Feb 1900) were born. From there they moved to Starkweather, Ramsey, North Dakota, where 3 more daughters, Emma (20 Dec 1901), Elsie (16 Oct 1903) and Anna (14 May 1905) were born. In 1906 the family migrated to Canada to a homestead in Forestburg, Alberta. There 5 more children, Bertha (23 Feb 1908), Adelena (7 Dec 1912), Clara (7 Dec 1914), Lawrence (1 Mar 1917) and Raymond (30 Aug 1919), were born. In all they were blessed with 10 children.
