Obituary 2 Feb 1892[7]

THE LATE MR. FINLAY McIVOR.—It was announced in our columns last week that Mr. Finlay Mclvor, of Yalla Creek, near Narracoorte, had died on the 17th January at the ripe age of 86. Mr. McIvor had been a resident of this district for about 20 years, having taken up land in 1872 in the Hundred of Jessie, about 10 miles from Narracoorte. Mr. Mclvor arrived by the ship Tomatin, at Port Adelaide, on the 11th of March, 1840, and he was thus a colonist of 52 years. Soon after landing he went on to Strangways' cattle station, where he remained for 12 months. He then took employment from the late Captain Ellis, staying with him two years. After this he engaged in farming at Aldinga, where he remained till 1859, when he went to Mount Gambier. He took up land near the Six Mile inn, on which he resided for 13 years, after which he came to the District of Narracoorte, where he engaged in farming. Mr. Mclvor was a typical, hard-headed Scotchman, being a native of Inverness, and was much respected. His funeral was largely attended, the neighbours of all classes for miles round taking part in the "cortege."
