Daniel was born about 1837 in County Meath, Ireland. [1]
He arrived in New Zealand on 23 August 1875 aboard the Blairgowrie. There were Daniel (35), Bridget (35), Philip (7), John (5) and James (2.5). [2]
He lived at Kyle, a settlement near the mouth of the Rakaia River; and was one of the oldest settlers at that locality. His farm was called Moana (this can be found on NZ Topomap).
He passed away 24 October 1897 and is buried at Rakaia Cemetery. He left a wife and family. [3] [4] [5]
Research Notes
No marriage record found for Daniel and Bridget. All marriages from 1864 should have been registered civilly in Ireland; and given the breakneck speed at which they had children after 1868, it seems less likely they married before 1864.
