Terrance was born about 1835 in Ireland. He passed away in 1905 in Buffalo, New York, United States.
Terrance married Margaret Riordan sometime before May 1870, and together they had four children. They lived most of their lives in Darlington township of Durham County, Ontario, Canada as farmers, then moved to Buffalo, New York in later years, where they both passed away eventually.
A Terrance McDonald, age 30, Catholic and born in Ireland, was enumerated in Darlington, Durham County, Ontario, Canada in 1871, together with his wife Margaret, age 26, and son Patrick, born May of 1870. Occupation: Farmer. [1]
1881 Census of Canada: Turence McDonnell, age 46, and wife Margaret, age 36, in Darlington Township, Durham County, Ontario. Children: Paterick, age 11, Alexander, age 9, Julia, age 8, and Mary, age 3. [2]
In 1891, all four children were still living at home in Darlington, Durham County, where Terrance and Margaret were farming, along with both sons, Patrick now 20, and Sarsfield 19, also listed as farmers in the census. [3]
By 1898 however, Terrance and Margaret had moved to Buffalo, New York, where he worked as an agent, along with their grown children, all living with them at 128 Walden Avenue. Patrick worked as a conductor for the Boston Railway company and Sarsfield was a barber at 166 Walden Avenue. The girls, Julia and Mary were not listed in the city directories.[4]
In 1899, Sarsfield moved back to Canada - he married Johanna Heffernan in Ontario, Canada on April 24, 1899, and started a family shortly thereafter.
In 1900 the entire family, minus Sarsfield who was now living and starting a family in Canada, were listed in the 1900 Federal U.S. Census. Terrance was listed as a farmer, though presumably retired, and not much farming opportunity in the city. Patrick was still working as a conductor, Julia was dressmaking and Mary doing general housework. (Note: census taker spelled the last name as McDonald, the more common spelling/misspelling.)[5]
Terrance passed away at age 70 on Sunday, 2 April 1905, in Buffalo, New York. His funeral was held on Wednesday, 5 April 1905, beginning at 9:00 in the morning from his house at 129 Walden Avenue, Buffalo, and then progressing to St. Mary Magdelene church at 3:30 in the afternoon.[6]
