Biography

Henry Kitts was born about 1807. ^[1] He married Mary Nash 29 Apr 1825 in Albany, New York. ^[2]

In 1828 in Watertown (Jefferson Co.), New York, Henry purchased a town lot for the purpose of morocco dressing (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morocco_leather). ^[3]He later moved to Westford (Otsego Co.)^[4] and by 1835 was living in Oswego (Oswego Co.) where he continued working in the morocco leather industry and later in the lumber business. ^[5]

Henry and Mary had seven children: George Henry, Frances Charlotte, Julia Elizabeth, William Augustine, Willard Augustus and James Gilman Kitts.^[6] Henry died in Oswego Co., New York, 24 May 1838.^[1]

Research Notes

Henry had a brother Martin Kitts who followed Henry to Watertown (Jefferson Co.) in 1830 and later to Oswego.^[7] Martin died in 1840 in Oswego, New York. In his will Martin makes a bequest to the “son of my deceased brother Henry”.^[8] No census record has been found for Martin in 1830 or 1840.
