Matthew was born about 1609 in England. He was the Vicar of St Materiana's Church in Tintagel, Cornwall from 1629 until his death there in 1668, when he was succeeded by his son Silvester.
He had been turned out of his living at the time of the Commonwealth, [1]but lived to return to his Vicarage at the Restoration.[2]
