Biography

William Thomas Lee went by Thomas. He was the son of Henry Culpepper Lee and Margaret M (Henry) Lee. He was born in the Lee homestead on Jonathan creek. He became a student of business and became the most successful merchant in Waynesville and western North Carolina. During that time he served as alderman and mayor of Waynesville.

He entered politics in 1894 and served in the State Legislature. In 1910 he was elected a member of the North Carolina Corporation Commission. He was chairman of the Haywood County Executive Committee of the Democrat party, and more.

In 1883, William Thomas Lee married Margaret "Maggie" A Rhinehart aka Rinehardt (and several spelling variations of her maiden name). Children include:
