Christian was born in 1823. While serving in Company D, 35th Indiana Infantry, Sergeant Christian Saalman was captured at Chickamauga, Georgia on September 19, 1863. He died while imprisoned at Andersonville Prison in Macon County, Georgia. He died on July 29, 1864 of diarrhea. [1]
